New Member Nomination

All new membership nominations are due by September 1. New members must be nominated by a current member. There is not an application form. The nomination requires a curriculum vitae and three separate letters of recommendation, including one from the sponsor. Each member can be the primary sponsor of one person per year (but can write supporting letters for other nominees).

New member nominations are reviewed based on Membership Guidelines which recognize contributions to academic surgery including publications, grant funding, leadership positions, as well as membership and leadership in surgical societies. Meeting minimum requirements is not a guarantee of election into the society, and final decision on acceptance of new members is at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Once selected, new members are required to give a scientific presentation at the annual meeting which will constitute their induction into the society. Only inducted members will be invited to dinner.
